New branding & packaging, OK…

Posted on | October 28, 2009 | No Comments

After the success of the re-brand and packaging for the Greenridge product family, we were asked by Integria Health (formerly Thompsons Health) to help them with a full re-brand and re-package of the OK Tea Tree brand. Its very exciting to see this fun label in production and we hope it makes their customers smile.

We think, therefore we Google…

Posted on | September 21, 2009 | No Comments

In these slightly uncertain times, it seems as if we still want answers and who better to provide them than Google. As a daily Google user I am not surprised that its brand value has risen by 25%, there really does not seem to be any other search engine on peoples lips! Be sure to check the results of this years most valued brands here: www.brandchannel.com

New Greenspeak branding…

Posted on | September 8, 2009 | No Comments

We were thrilled to be told about a new business promoting Australian flora and fauna to overseas kids, the programs helped to explain how we can look after our natural world around us. The client wanted a simple, clean logo that would be instantly recognisable, below is our offering. You may notice elements such as eucalyptus leaf, cupped hand and whale that all help to push the overall brand message of ‘looking after the natural world around us’. Thanks guys for the opportunity to develop a new brand that is close to our hearts.

small is beautiful…

Posted on | August 18, 2009 | No Comments

I regularly follow the great advice by the guys over at Flying Solo and this one by Zern really struck a chord with me so I thought I would regurgitate some of his fine words so others could benefit.

The conventional business world is obsessed with big. The prevailing myth is that bigger is better – including the outward appearance of big.

If we scratch beneath the surface of big, we find small. There is amazing transformative power in the Small. Small is all around us. Small is us being the individuals that we are. Small steps start the longest journeys. Small intimate relationships grow large spheres of influence. And small home offices become big corporations. Small is the new big!

1. Small is personal.
2. Small empowers the individual.
3. Small is social.
4. Small is human-scaled.
5. Small tempers the ego.
6. Small is actionable.
7. Small is agile.
8. Small is creative.
9. Small is Brand You.
10. Small is gratitude.
11. Small is approachable.
12. Small prepares you for big.

To fully realise the benefits of small, you must think and see big: big dreams, big visions, big aspirations; and of course big abundance and big opportunities. If you like what you read, why not come and have a chat…

New Melbourne identity…

Posted on | July 29, 2009 | No Comments

Melbourne logo

Melbourne logo

The city of Melbourne has recently  unveiled its new logo, the big M. Designed by Landor Associates in Sydney the Lord Mayor had this to say:

‘The new design will become an icon for Melbourne, synonymous with the modern, vibrant, cool city Melbourne is today and will continue to be in the future.’

There has been outcry from Melbourne design houses saying that the State has ignored the fact that there are so many talented designers living and working in and around the city, perhaps it was felt that an outside opinion was needed to encapsulate all the city has to offer, whatever the reason at $148,000 its not a logo to be sniffed at. What are your thoughts? do you like it or loath it? Check more of the design here…

New branding for Greenridge…

Posted on | July 13, 2009 | No Comments

After the success of the re-brand and packaging for the Eureka product family, we were asked by marketing guru’s Johan and Caitlin of Integria (formerly Thompsons Health) to help them with a full re-brand and re-package of the Greenridge herbal family. As a group we decided on the company positioning statement ‘The Herbal Specialist’ which led to the look and feel of both the logo and packaging. Its been a great project and we look forward to presenting the new website in the coming months.

end of the tax year…

Posted on | June 23, 2009 | No Comments

So here we are facing down the barrel of another tax year, so much advertising is being thrown at us along with the 50% tax break for small businesses that it starts to get a little silly. I write this as I almost got to a point today where I bought a new laptop just because of the savings it would have made to our tax bill, do I need a new laptop? NO! Is there anything wrong with the existing laptop? NO!

So why did I feel compelled to spend 4K on a new one? In my opinion its the life we now live, everything is fast and getting faster, we now have access to infinite information via the web, via our phones, via each other, via the cab driver, even via our children. Our friends are now virtual and we keep in touch via email, facebook, MySpace and Twitter, suddenly that deep human interaction that we all crave is fast becoming non-existent, weeks go by between conversations, between exchanged smiles, between hugs.

We are told to be this and do that by advertising that is now 3 dimensional and moves along with us at the Mall, soon the ads will be directed at us as we walk past offering our own personal, tailored message dependant on what we just looked at in Coles. Our cars are faster, our food is faster, our conversations are faster and the words we do write are fstr.

Now, I am all for technological advances, I use a computer everyday and my half scientific, half creative brain loves the daily new inventions and ideas that come from TED or GIZMAG I am concerned that, as the core basic human needs are to be loved and accepted, we are moving away from the actual experiences that allow us to feel these things. This makes me sad especially for my young daughter who will grow up in a very different world, a world where emoticons replace emotions, txt replaces speech and online games replace social interaction.

So what can we do I hear you ask? Well, one thing is that we can all remember what and who we are, little animals on a big planet in a massive universe with a finite number of years. We can get together with each other and chat, turn off the TV, computer, internet, mobile phones, ipods, slow down and enjoy each others company without the need to go anywhere and do anything, we can communicate ideas and sketch them out without having to act on them the next day, we can listen to the sounds around us, really listen.

OK, my rant is over… thanks for reading and if you ever want to come and sketch or chat over some ideas, thinkingclub is open to all. Peace

Jeff Han strikes again, the end of the mouse?

Posted on | June 2, 2009 | No Comments

Microsoft has developed a coffee-table-like “surface computer” codenamed Milan, where you can interact by touch and transfer data without wires. Take a photo, place the camera on the table surface, the photo appears in the table top. Move your PDA near the photo and it is instantly uploaded onto your device. It does beg the question what Apple will come up with next, surely it will blow us all away!

Check out this amazing video of how we may be using these screens very soon, click here.

Call for Entries – AGDA Poster Annual 2009

Posted on | May 12, 2009 | No Comments

AGDA poster competition

AGDA poster competition

Sampling The Future – Society is in a continual state of flux. We are now dominated by five major global conditions:

• Climate change
• Dimishing fossil fuels
• Climate change
• Diminishing fossil fuels
• Globalised economic crisis
• Generational change, and
• New technologies

AGDA is now calling for entries for the AGDA Poster Annual 2009. Using the poster format, demonstrate how design holds the potential to lead the parallel trajectories of business, science and society towards a common future. Judges will look for entries that best demonstrate creative thinking in regards to the points above, a progressive use of graphic design and an insight into the theme.

The key objective for the AGDA Poster Annual is to promote graphic design to the Australian public.

The focal point of this year’s event will be an exhibition in and around the Melbourne CBD. This will be done by creating a unique, engaging platform in the AGDA Poster Annual which celebrates the age-old art of poster design. Our aim is to give the annual a life outside of the exhibition space and allow it to exist online and throughout the city of Melbourne using out of home media and public gallery spaces. We aim to work within the 2009 State of Design theme, Sampling the Future.

Entries close at 5pm, Friday 5th of June.

For more information on entry specifications, eligibility, the judging process and to submit an entry, visit: http://posterannual.agda.com.au/
